Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! We are excited to share the availability of two new enhanced features for Microsoft Teams certified devices in Teams Public Preview.

Enhancements for Teams certified devices

If you’re using a Teams certified device with a Teams button, you can now take advantage of two new functions:

  • Join a Teams meeting from the pre-join screen, which gives you the ability to adjust your headphones or position your speakerphone device as you get connected.
  • Bring the Meeting window to the foreground during a meeting, which enables you to get back to the meeting window after multitasking or preparing to present content in another window.

Please note that the second feature is only available on devices with a dedicated Teams button.

Dedicated Teams button

If you see a button with both the Microsoft Teams logo and the call hangup/switchhook function, your device will not be compatible with this enhancement.

Non-dedicated button

How it works

  • To join a Teams meeting from the pre-join screen
    1. After receiving a Meeting start notification, tap your Teams
    2. On the pre-join screen, tap the Teams button again to join the meeting.

  • To bring the Teams meeting window to the foreground: After joining the meeting and while working in other window, click the Teams button on your certified device and notice that the meeting windows get brought up to the foreground.

Known limitations

  • The two new features are only available when using Teams certified devices.
  • The ability to bring the Meeting window to the foreground during a meeting requires the Teams button on your device to be single purpose.  If you’re using a device that includes a button showing both the Microsoft Teams logo and the call hangup/switchhook, this enhancement won’t be available.

Availability

To be able to use this feature, users need to be members of the Teams Public Preview and use the Windows, macOS, or web (Edge, Chrome) Teams client. Other meeting participants are not required to be members of the Teams Public Preview.

To enable your Teams client for the Public Preview, IT admins need to set an update policy that turns on Show preview features. Learn how at Public preview in Microsoft Teams

  • If the Follow Office Preview option is selected, it automatically enables Teams Public Preview features for any user enrolled in Office Current Channel (Preview). There are no more actions required by the end user.
  • If the Enabled option is selected, the end user must also opt in to Teams public preview in their Teams app to get access to Teams Public Preview features.
  • If the Forced option is selected, it automatically enables Teams Public Preview for the end user. There are no more actions required by the end user.
